BREAKING: Philippine Airlines Flight Crashed off Eastern Coast of Philippines
LOS ANGELES--
Philippine Airlines Flight 102, from Manila to Los Angeles, has reportedly crashed off the eastern coast of the Philippines, 380 kilometers east of Jomalig Island. Audio recordings from the cockpit immediately prior to the crash depict a loud explosion, approximately 45 seconds prior to the plane plunging into the ocean. The aircraft descended over 9,000 feet in that duration, with rapid decompression likely preventing the pilots from being able to recover the aircraft.
The Boeing 777 had 189 passengers on board, including 61 Americans and 105 Filipino citizens. It is not known whether the crash was perpetrated by a bomb onboard, a missile strike, or a mechanical failure. Initial estimates believe that there are no survivors.
