GUANGZHOU --
Ethnic Hoa Vietnamese congregated at the norther border of Vietnam continue to emigrate into China. With border officials in Yunnan Province instructed to open the border to asylee applicants from Vietnam, tens of thousands of ethnic Hoa are eager to leave makeshift refugee camps located at the northern border, forced there after mass protests against erupted amidst strong anti-Chinese sentiment prior. Ethnic Hoa Vietnamese are considered the descendants of Chinese immigrants to Vietnam.
Vietnamese officials have been overseeing the departure of the Hoa, and many Vietnamese individuals are content with the peaceful departure of the minority group.
As Yunnan Province continues to receive more immigrants, state resources continue to be stretched thin. Some residents in Yunnan Province have expressed concern that allocations of state resources for the rural poor will be in competition with the new residents.
