Press Statement from the Government of the Philippines
The Philippines calls for United Nations action in regards to the multiple breaches of international law. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea has sat by and watched as the 12 nautical miles off the coast of the Philippines, which is guaranteed by UNCLOS to be within our territorial area and therefore Filipino sovereign territory, has been repeatedly invaded and infringed upon. This is an insult to the Philippines’ Constitution guaranteeing the sovereignty and peace of Filipino territory. Furthermore, the Philippines is deeply disturbed by the International Court of Justice from allowing the criminals Pham Binh Minh of Vietnam and Wang Yi of the People’s Republic of China to be tried in the safety of their home for breaking an international law.
We as a nation call for a more responsible handling of these international crises.
