Reports have emerged that two Hongdu L-15 Falcons surveying the South China Sea surrounding the area where the Chinese Naval Ship Nanjing was attacked and sunk were reported to have encountered an unmanned aerial aircraft from the Philippine Air Force. The PLA Air Force reported that the aircraft quickly turned around to avoid detection, narrowly missing the Chinese fighter jets as they intercepted the UAV. The waters around the Nanjing continue to be contested, with Chinese forces believed to be preparing for military action.
